Randy Brown Motorsports Recap: Hampton

As the 2011 season draws to an end, the Randy Brown Motorsports team made the short trip to the Hampton Coliseum for a weekend of hometown shows. Both drivers Randy Brown, and Joe Parnell always enjoy the chance to compete close to home, and with many friends and family in attendance they performed well all weekend long. Friday night saw a strong start to the weekend of competition. The no longer rookie Joe Parnell opened things up with a great effort in the wheelie contest. Parnell planted the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle on the wheelie bar in both of his attempts, earning a second place finish.

After a summer of drag racing passes, Randy Brown was well prepared to race the Grave Digger on the straight line track. Brown was sharp on the light all night, taking out rookie Bryan Wright in Mopar Magic, and his fellow teammate Joe Parnell on his way to the finals. In the finals Brown edged out Ryan Anderson and Son-Uva Digger in a tight race, so tight that Anderson thought he had won the race and began celebrating with a victory jump. “Thanks to Ryan Anderson for doing my victory celebration,” joked Brown in his post race interview.

Freestyle saw strong performances from both Joe Parnell and Randy Brown. Parnell went big right from the start, getting completely vertical over the van stack on his second hit. From there Parnell continued on with multiple big jumps, including a leap over the FMX landing ramp, as well as donut to finish up his run. Brown took a cue from his teammate and didn’t waste anytime getting the crowd going during his freestyle. The action packed run saw several big leaps out of the Grave Digger along with some trademark Digger donuts. Brown came up just one point short of doubling down on the night.

Following the pit party on Saturday, the Randy Brown Motorsports team got right back to business. Joe Parnell once again delivered in the wheelie contest, with two vertical leaps in the Turtle that would earn another second place finish. Randy Brown continued his consistent efforts in racing, knocking out Stone Crusher and Grinder on his way to the a final round rematch with Son-Uva Digger. Brown drove hard but came up just shy of getting his second racing win.

In freestyle, Joe Parnell got the crowd rocking early with a great run in the Turtle. Parnell has shown he’s not afraid to put the truck into a wheelie, and once again got a huge wheelstand over the van stack. The truck took an awkward bounce onto the nose, but Parnell was able to keep the truck on all four’s, but knocked the right rear tire off the bead. Parnell continued on despite the flat tire, and ended his run with a great donut.

After a disappointing loss in the finals, Randy Brown stormed the track in freestyle. Brown flew the Grave Digger all over the floor during the course of his run with great momentum. After a minute of a blistering pace freestyle, Brown ripped into a cyclone donut in the middle of the floor. The Digger whipped around for several rotations before the right side wheels came off the ground, sending the truck onto it’s roof. Brown emerged unscathed from the truck to a roaring ovation from the crowd. The run was enough to pick the freestyle victory, closing out the season with a win.

With the 2011 season in the books, it’s now time to prepare for the upcoming 2012 season. Check back soon to see where Randy Brown Motorsports will be heading this winter!
